Stress Relief Tips

We all experience stress in different ways. The first step to resolving it is to identify what’s causing it. Below are some simple steps to get you on your way to managing the stress in your life.

  • Breathe deeply – fresh air helps relieve stress & provides oxygen to your brain & other muscles, thus reducing tension.
  • Go for a long walk, walk briskly, stretch, exercise, dance.
  • Close your eyes and visualize yourself in a serene place.
  • Do something just for you at least once a day (e.g., lie down for 15 minutes, eat that thing you crave, exercise, read a romance or car magazine, cook, knit, play ball, do something you love).
  • Laugh.
  • Pray, meditate.
  • Listen to spa music at just the right level or music with a fast beat really loud.
  • Sit down and talk face-to-face with someone you trust (phone/Skype/FaceTime is okay too).
  • Eat healthy (Lowering sugar & caffeine intake, as well as taking vitamin B and EHT, has been helpful).
  • Play with your children, play with your pet, play!
  • Plan a day where you can escape reality (vacation or just a day to do what you want – even the planning will de-stress you if you let it).
  • Use aromatherapy: Scents like jasmine, lavender, chamomile, & clary sage are known to reduce stress.
  • Replace negative thoughts with positive thoughts. Be intentional.
  • Sleep – Many in our society are sleep-deprived. Allow yourself to get enough rest. Sleep until you naturally wake up.
  • Get a massage. Take a hot bath. Enjoy a spa or Jacuzzi.
  • Have a cup of warm tea, milk, or hot chocolate.
  • Eat by candlelight or natural light (easier on the eyes than fluorescent light).
  • Think of things that make you happy.
  • Make a list and schedule Stress Relief tips in your daily life.
