Symptoms of dentophobia (fear of the dentist)?

  • Some people fear gagging or choking during a dental procedure. They may fear not being able to breathe, swallow or be concerned they may gag or vomit.
  • Drills and other dental instruments make some rather loud and threatening sounds and as the mouth is right by the ears, this may be startling for some.
  • Some may become anxious due to how the dentist’s office smells.
  • Some are triggered by the taste or flavor of substances used for cleaning or other procedures uses during dental treatment.
  • Some may associate negative feelings with their dentist. This may come from a prior negative experience at the dentist or from an influential person in their life modeling a fear of dentists or the procedures themselves.
  • People who are more sensitive to pain than others may be fearful of feeling discomfort during their dental treatment.
  • A fear of needles may contribute to the fear of injections dentists use during dental procedures.
  • Some fear the poke associated with the anesthetic. While some may fear the side effects of the anesthetic, such as temporary numbness of their lips and tongue.
  • Some people have a fear of blood (hemophobia) and are afraid the procedure may cause bleeding.
  • There may be other reasons not listed but the cool thing is Hypnotherapy can help with any one of the above or even other random fears not mentioned.

At The A Treatment Center, we customize your recording to allow for a personalized experience. After mining the clients brain for data, Arolyn creates a unique hypnotherapy tool based on your homework so that your custom recording addresses your specific fears and helps to reframe how you view the experience in a positive & restorative way.  The recording eeds to be kiatened to every night for 2 weeks straight and then can be used any time you start to experience dentaphobia.  In most cases symptoms are reduced. At times, deeper therapy may be needed. At this point options for types of therapy range from DBT, EMDR, exposure therapy to other therapeutic modalities.
